Trip Report
Well, folks, today Tom and Elyse had to go home to New York. They have to work tomorrow, Monday the 23rd. So for now on I am on my own.
Now we did a short outing yesterday, Saturday. We birded Lamar just north of Rockport. We did have some interesting birds, Ladder-backed Woodpecker, Hermit Thrush, and we did get a new trip bird, a White-crowned Sparrow.
Now the treat on this outing was two Whooping Cranes. In the small village of Lamar a couple residents have large feeders that the Whoopers frequent. In fact during the winter months Lamar is a common location for Whoopers. And we saw the two Whoopers flying from one of these feeders.
Also in the Lamar area is the "Big Tree." Now this tree is 1000 yrs + Live Oak. Mmm... you think about it, 1000 yrs is a long time. Just think this tree had birds nesting in it 500 yrs before the Europeans showed up in the new world.
Like I said, from now on I am on my own. I will miss the two energizer birders. I had a hard time keeping up with those two. It was common for us to bird all day, and when we got back to the condo those two were out looking for more birds, while I was resting my old bones.
